1 SEVEN THUNDERS

What are the seven thunders?

Answer: The seven thunders appear in Revelation 10:1–7. In Apostle John’s apocalyptic vision of the end times, he sees a mighty angel striding the sea and the land with a scroll in his hand. The angel gives a shout like the roar of a lion, and then the voices of the seven thunders speak, “…And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not,”  Revelation 10:4.

Greek Short Definition: thunder
Definition: thunder.

akin to bremó (to roar)

Just as the voice of many waters represents the voice of Jesus, the thunder represents the voice of God. Psalm 18:13 says, “The LORD THUNDERED  from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.”

“…And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great THUNDER:”  Revelation 14:2

(Jesus) And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.  Revelation 1:15

Thunder is often associated with judgment, “…The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he THUNDER upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed,”  1 Samuel 2:10.

And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD THUNDERED with a great THUNDER on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.  1 Samuel 7:10

The LORD THUNDERED from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.  2 Samuel 22:14

It appears that the seven thunders are calling out for God’s judgment upon the earth.

More evidence of the thunders being the voice of God, “…And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and THUNDERINGS and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.  Revelation 4:5

As the Apostle John was about to write the words of the seven thunders, he was told not to write them down.  So we don’t know what the seven thunders said, we can only speculate.
